A trip to Germany should always start with an itinerary centered around Bavaria. There are plenty of things to do in Bavaria, and they’re all family friendly. To give your memories a lasting meaning, check out some of the top places in the area. 

1. Rothenburg and the Romantic Road

There are three medieval walled towns in Rothenburg. All three only comprise a small part of what makes this historic area so unique. The Romantic Road tour covers a lot of this area, with hours of incredible scenery. 

2. Marienplatz and Frauenkirche, Munich

Munich is the capital of Bavaria, and home to many of the most notable tourist attractions. Marienplatz and Frauenkirche are two notable churches from two entirely different periods. The history behind both is more than worth a stop when you’re in the area. 

3. Linderhof Palace

King Ludwig II loved Linderhof Palace. This ranks as one of the most lavish palaces in the world, with a size that will leave you inspired. In the audience chamber, the Hall of Mirrors has remained a favorite of many tourists that visit the interiors. 

4. Nymphenburg and the Residenz – Munich’s Royal Palaces

Munich’s Royal Palaces has been the home of the leaders in Bavaria for centuries. The current palace is Nymphenburg, and it remains one of the most magnificent sites in Bavaria. Before leaving, visiting the gardens is necessary to get the full spectacle of the trip.  

5. Neuschwanstein

This is the type of castle that you see in fairy tales. Seeing it in the distance is breathtaking, and seeing it up close is intimidating. The design is so good that Disney used it for inspiration for their theme park castles. 

6. Königssee and Kehlsteinhaus

The lake and mountainside view of Königssee is something that you’ll never forget. It has a distinct look that stands out in photos and videos. Kehlsteinhaus is an impressive mountain, with an even more impressive history. 

7. Englischer Garten (English Garden), Munich

Over the years, Englischer Garten has been the best spot for simple walks, cycling, meditations and relaxing. It attracts locals and tourists with its 78 kilometers of pathways. The English Garden is always improving, and has included a brand new Japanese Garden on its own separate island. 

8. Zugspitze and the Bavarian Alps

Few mountains are as impressive as Bavaria’s Zugspitze. It is an important part of the Wetterstein Alpine mountain range. Visitors can use the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn cog railway to reach its location. 

9. Nürnberg Castle and Altstadt (Old Town)

The restoration of Nürnberg Castle was an important part of Germany’s history. Seeing its prewar condition again has been the focus of many trips to the area. Old Town by itself is impressive, while Nürnberg Castle is an entirely new experience.
