When you and your family are ready to travel, one of the most beautiful and adventurous places to visit is the Zhangjianjie National Forest Park in China. There is much to see and do in this National Park and something to satisfy everyone in the family.
Before you pack your bags, there are a few matters you should know about this attractive destination.
Adjust your expectations for accommodations
It would be best to stay near the national forest rather than in the big city below. The hotels in the city will be more expensive and of higher quality, but staying near your destination will help you beat the morning rush of visitors and hikers.
Be prepared to hike or walk, a lot
There are several trails, ranging from tranquil and easy, to highly inclined and difficult. Many of the trails are paved with flat stones, therefore packing good quality walking shoes is a must. Some of the trails meander through small villages, next to streams and larger bodies of water. Some of the trails will take you up into the mountains for the most spectacular views of the Earth below.
Ride your way through the park
Although most of the park is geared towards hiking and walking, there are buses, cable cars, a miniature train, and an elevator available to get you to and from some of the major attractions and beautiful nature areas.
Nearly all of these types of transportation require advanced reservations and a small fee. After a day or two of hiking, one of these modes of transportation is going to be ideal.
Pack clothing according to the season
If you are planning your visit during the winter months, pack warm clothing. If you are planning on hiking more, pack clothing that is easily layered because you will become warmer as you go up the mountain.
If your visit is scheduled during the summer months, pack light-colored clothing, a large brimmed hat, sunglasses, mosquito repellent, and sun block. A light jacket may be needed for the cooler evenings and early mornings.
Take plenty of water and snacks
You will want to stay hydrated, and the best way to do that is with bottled water. There are places like fast-food restaurants and snack shacks along some of the paths. However, it is best to bring your own light snacks and water. And remember, you will need cash to purchase food and souvenirs.
Invest in a quality backpack
Even if you are not going to hike each day, you will want to invest in a good quality all-purpose lightweight backpack. You will want to carry your water, snacks, extra clothing and a small emergency kit. The kit should contain a few items like band-aids, matches, and headache remedies.
Be cautious of the monkeys
On some of the trails, there are wild monkeys. They can be aggressive at times, especially around food. Be sure to keep your distance and hide your food. They will go on their way if you don’t have anything they want.
The Zhangjianjie National Forest Park is a wonderful adventure for solo travelers, couples, and families any time of the year.
